Circle Dance

Circle Dance IMG_E5520.JPG

"We move in a circle to wonderful music from Greece, Israel, Scotland, Bulgaria, Russia, Romania, France and elsewhere. We trace dance steps sometimes new, sometimes centuries old.

The dances are mostly simple or moderately easy. Each one will be taught just before we do it. You won’t need a partner because everyone in the circle is your partner. You won’t need any skills, because these dances have always been done by everyone, old and young, to honour the earth and its rhythms.

Dancing in a circle is one of the oldest ways in which people celebrate community and togetherness. Your body and heart will delight in a growing feeling of connection and oneness: with yourself, with others, with the earth, perhaps with something greater."

"Why circle-dance?

1. Science proves dancing is good for your brain.
2. Studies have shown that dancing has many health benefits beyond simple exercise.
3. Dancing increases neutral activity and can heal your brain as it ages.
4. It lowers the risk of dementia by helping find better paths through damaged brain networks.
5. It helps prevent dizziness by boosting the cerebellum, which can improve your balance.
6. It makes you more intelligent, helping you make quick and accurate decisions.
7. It enhances memory by training your brain to find paths that help access stored information.
8. It improves muscle memory helping you achieve complex moves by visualising movements."
